ReThread & Renew: Hand Sewing & Mending Essentials Workshop

Join Emily Adams, Crafter’s Library staff, and SBPL to learn the elements of mending and making by hand. In this two-hour class, you will use needle and thread to do everything from attaching buttons the right way, to learning the most important stitches to use in mending, and even reimagining your old clothes with colorful embroidery.

Students will be guided through four essential stitches: back, whip, blind hem and ladder, as well as basic embroidery stitches to create truly unique garments. All supplies included, bring yourself and a friend!

A California native and life-long maker, Emily Adams learned to sew on her great-grandmother’s foot-powered Singer as a child and began building her own wardrobe in 2007. At the time, she was a freelance writer and quickly discovered the meditative and calming influence of a regular sewing practice. It is this, plus the beauty of natural fibers, that she seeks to share with her students. Sewing your own clothes is an act of self-love and when we use natural fibers, we love the planet, too.
