Program Description

Details/Detalles

This group is designed for moms before, during, and after having their babies who seek support in their transition to motherhood. (This event is in Spanish)

The Santa Barbara Public Library and The Solar Road Foundation invite you to participate in this wellness group where Alondra Sánchez, who has worked with families as a postpartum doula, birth companion, and educator, will facilitate discussions on the joys and challenges of postpartum and motherhood. There will also be opportunities to process our birthing experiences. This is a safe space where women will feel supported and part of a community. They are not alone in these tender and vulnerable moments. Come and share your experiences, gain confidence in motherhood, and learn about postpartum care!

The Solar Road Foundation is a nonprofit organization started by the birth postpartum professionals of Earth Milk Moon. The goal of the Solar Road Foundation is to help provide access to postpartum wellness care that supports families, allowing them to thrive in the early postpartum time.

During the postpartum period, there are essential elements that are required for a person to fully heal after birth, and for a mother and baby to thrive, grow, and develop.

The Solar Road Foundation believes that everyone deserves these basic human needs which include rest, nourishment, warmth, safety and community support during the postpartum period.

As a result of this gap in support, the United States is experiencing an epidemic of postpartum depression and anxiety, which has huge impacts not only on new mothers, but also their children, families, and communities at large. The US also has the highest maternal mortality rate of any high resource country in the world. Most of these deaths occur within the first year after birth.

In response to the lack of support mothers, families, and babies receive from today’s healthcare model, The Solar Road Foundation provides scholarships for families to help them afford in-home and virtual postpartum wellness care, specifically through postpartum doula support, lactation support, nutritional support, postpartum education and postpartum community support groups.

The Eastside Library Postpartum support group is sponsored and supported by The Solar Road Foundation and is held by an Earth Milk Moon doula, Alondra Sanchez.
