Purpose of Meeting
The Santa Barbara Public Library, established in 1882, offers free access to books, technology, programs, and resources for all. We invite everyone to explore our collections, connect with the community, and enjoy our wide range of events.
In 1882, the Santa Barbara City Council established the first Library Board of Trustees by ordinance. When the 1967 City Charter was adopted, the duties of the Board were expanded and its name changed to the Library Board.
The Library Board consists of 5 members of the public and makes recommendations to the City Council and library leadership concerning the operation and conduct of the Santa Barbara Public Library and its facilities for which the City is responsible. The Library Board meets monthly on third Thursdays from 12-2pm.
