The Santa Barbara Art Association (SBAA) was founded in 1952 and currently has a membership of approximately 525 artists, working in a variety of mediums. It is a 501(c)(3 )which grants awards and scholarships to outstanding students in high school and local colleges, and through the Student Art Fund awards grants to local art teachers. Membership is juried.

SBAA was founded to provide the people of this area a unique opportunity to view a number of free art shows and to foster and support art education in the community. To this end, it presents shows in various venues, sponsors workshops, awards scholarships and grants, manages the art/photo ingathering for the SBIOS and has managed the jurying for the Library's small galleries.
