Program Description

Details/Detalles

Hugh Ranson will join us to talk about how he got started in birding (and how you can, too); some of his favorite places to bird, from the deep ocean beyond the Channel Islands to the south, to Big Pine Mountain in the far north-east; and various places in between.

Bio: Hugh grew up in the UK, in both Wales and England, before migrating to California at the tender age of 20. He's been a birder since the age of 12, and birds were a big part of the reason he chose Santa Barbara as a destination. He was an elementary school teacher for 32 years, before retiring a couple of years ago, which has freed up more time for nature study: birds, bees, dragonflies, butterflies–really anything that moves. He writes a monthly column about local birds for the Santa Barbara Independent. He takes pictures, thousands and thousands of them, and is going to share some of his favorites with you.
