Have you ever used Wikipedia and wondered how articles are created? Do you have an interest in local history and research? Do you want to learn more about local historic people and places, and contribute to Wikipedia? Join librarians from the Santa Barbara Public Library and the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation to learn about local history resources in our community and how to contribute your research to the steps for selecting subjects and drafting Wikipedia entries. Research, learn, and share your knowledge with our community!
The program will run over the course of two weeks, with a meeting at the Santa Barbara Public Library and a meeting at the Trust for Historic Preservation. No previous experience with Wikipedia editing required. Program is limited to 20 participants and registration is required.
Explore your community and connect with people who share a passion for local history!
Participants will:
- Create a Wikipedia editor account and become a Wikipedian
- Select, research, and write about a notable Santa Barbara resident or building
- Learn about local history resources in our community
- Draft a Wikipedia article on a notable Santa Barbara resident/building, or flesh out an existing Wikipedia stub
- Upload article to Wikipedia
